Bloodclaw Master

Orc - Waraxe - Light - Dual Wield - Werewolf

Background

A bloodclaw master embraces the animal within to a degree that it becomes external, transforming them into the beast from which the discipline was inspired.

This build is based on the Bloodclaw prestige class in Dungeons and Dragons while also combining it into a Werewolf build. The prestige class is available if 3 tiger claw disciplines are known and they know two-weapon fighting.

The build is basically a burst damage and defence build combining the racial powers of Orcs, beast form and spells that will continue whilst a werewolf. Stealth is also used to open combat as an alternative to the burst damage or once the burst has been used for the day.


Weapons

Dual wielded Orcish war axes. Craft a set or steel and then dwarven before you unlock Orcish smithing.


Armor

Leather Scout armour as it’s the best leather based armour you can craft at the start of the game. Once you have the farm setup head south east to Gjukar’s Monument and then keep going until you see several mudcrabs. Kill them all and then you can take scaled armor, boots and gauntlets from a dead adventurer.

Then the final gear is a Forsworn Headdress, Savior’s Hide, Orcish Scaled Boots and Gauntlets.

You can pick up a quest to get Orcish Scaled armour from a journal in Windhelm but it’s easy enough to just get Smithing to 50 get Orcish Smithing and then just craft it. Savior’s Hide is a reward for killing Sinding in a quest that starts by talking to the farmers at the cemetery in Falkreath.

The ring of the hunt as well so that your health regenerates while in werewolf form. This is equipped just before the transformation into a werewolf. This can be purchased from Majni at Frostmoon Crag on Solstehim but only if you are a werewolf otherwise they will turn hostile if you linger for too long.


Spells

Ebonyflesh from Alteration while a Werewolf and heals from Restoration when out of combat.


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone to boost both damage reduction and magic resistance in and out of beast form.


Shrines

Use a Shrine of Talos for the 20% reduction to shout cooldowns.


Shouts

Dragon Aspect (Strength – Armor – Wyrm)

Location: Temple of Miraak, Raven Rock Mine, Waking Dreams Black Book (Just before Miraak).

For 5 minutes deal 25% extra damage with power attacks, +125 points of armour, +25% fire and frost resistance, shouts are stronger and have a 20% cooldown reduction.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Orc

Khajiit may seem like a good choice relative to the Tiger Claw disciplines in Dungeones and Dragons but with this being a Werewolf build being able to go into a berserker rage as an Orc before transforming into a werewolf gives a massive burst of increases in both offense and defence.

Make sure you go right in the werewolf skill tree first to get Savage Feeding as that allows you to feed off dead animals which both restores health and adds XP. I took this as my 4th perk in Faldar’s Tooth and was able to get a fifth perk and also halfway to the sixth from the dead animals.

Use the totem of brotherhood to call other werewolves to join you in combat. Needs to be perked in the werewolf skill tree. You need to fully complete the main quests for the Companions and keep taking quests from Aela so that you can go on a hunt with her for the Werewolf Totems. You basically need both the perk and the corresponding totem to gain the effects you want.

The ring of the hunt is also equipped just before transforming to allow you to regenerate health in beast form where you can normally only restore your health by feeding on dead bodies.

The Detect Life spellbook can be obtained in Whiterun by taking to the Steward in Dragonsreach and following the quest to the Stables. Cast this spell in the market to level Alteration.

Ebonyflesh is only used prior to using the beast form to buff up the damage resistance. While wearing armour the cap of 80% is reached when not in beast form.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem

Soul Trap is used to level Conjuration and also fill soul gems.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second.

Destruction is not needed in this build.

Restoration

Without enchanted gear Close Wounds is the best heal that can be cast and only with a Restoration skill level of 68 or more.

Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Resist Shock

Ingredients Blue Mountain Flower, Glowing Mushrooms & Swamp Fungal Pod
Effects Resist Shock Grants 128% resistance to shock
Restore Health 266 points restored
Fortify Health 140 points for 60 seconds

All of the ingredients can be found in or around Whiterun.


Potion of Regenerate Stamina

Ingredients Blisterwort, Fly Amanita & Scaly Pholiota
Effects Regenerate Stamina 213% faster for 300 seconds
Frenzy Creatures and people up to level 43 will attack anything nearby for 10 seconds.

All the Blisterwort and Fly Amanita you need are in Reachwater Rock to the south east of Markarth. All the Scaly Pholiota you need are close to the Alchemists Hut, which you can get to by travelling along the eastern path from Helgen towards Ivarstead.

The Frenzy effect doesn't do anything to you and I just added it as it seemed to fit the build. I think this is the first time I've roleplayed with a potion effect.


Potion of Resist Fire

Ingredients Dragon's Tongue, Purple Mountain Flowers & Snowberries
Effects Resist Fire Grants 128% resistance to fire
Resist Frost Grants 128% resistance to frost

Dragon’s Tongue can be found outside Arcadia’s Cauldron in Whiterun. Purple mountain flowers can be found on the way from Helgen to Whiterun. Snowberries are numerous just outside Windhelm or on the route from Helgen to Ivarstead.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
