Fiendish Flamewreath

Orc - Sword - Clothing - Heavy - Spellsword

Background

By their very nature, a warlocks powers are unusual and unpredictable. Some warlocks manifest a visible sign of fiendish prowess developing the ability to wreathe themselves in burning flames to damage attackers.


Weapons

Any sword at the start of the game and then a Steel Sword. I upgraded this to a Dwarven Sword once I had Smithing at 30 and the Dwarven Smithing perk. The final weapon is Trueflame which is a quest from the Ghosts of the Tribunal creation and you need to complete all the quests from that creation before you can make the sword. You start the quest chain by reading the journal in the first room on the right of the lower floor of the Temple in Raven Rock on Solstheim.


Armor

Craft a set of Steel Soldier Armor as soon as you can. The final Gear is a Gold and Emerald Circlet, Colleg Robes, Steel Spell Knight Boots and Steel Spell Knight Gauntlets.

College Robes can be purchased from Radiant Raiment in Solitude

The Steel Spell Knight Boots and Gauntlets can be acquired by reading the journal in the first room on the right, in the Blood and Silver Inn at Markarth. Then follow the resulting quest and you’ll find the items on a knight slain by Forsworn.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells. Destruction for fire based spells. Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

The Atronach Stone as this gives you 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% Magicka regeneration.


Shrines

Use a Shrine of Talos for the 20% reduction to shout cooldowns.


Shouts

Become Ethereal (Fade - Spirit - Bind)

Location: Iron Bind Barrow, Lost Valley Redoubt, Ustengrav (The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller).

Makes you temporarily invulnerable so you can for example cast Flame Cloak, then shout, then cluster enemies around you while the spell does it's work.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Orc

Imperials are a very strong match with the skill set of this build with a 30/35 skill boost with Orc and Redguard a close second on 25/35. I decided to go with Orc as the tendency, because of their skill set, is not to use them as spellswords or mages so thought it would be a nice change.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. Dwemer Automatons are all classed as male.

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds

The Detect Life spellbook can be obtained in Whiterun by taking to the Steward in Dragonsreach and following the quest to the Stables. Cast this spell in the market to get a few easy levels in Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem

Soul Trap is used to level Conjuration and also fill soul gems.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second.
Flame Cloak Adept For 60 seconds, opponents in melee range take 8 points fire damage per second. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Mara's Wrath Expert For 30 seconds, opponents in melee range take 16 points fire damage per second. Undead up to level 26 flee for 30 seconds.
Unbounded Flames Expert Casts a stream of long-distance fireballs in an arc. Impact creates a wall of fire that does 50 points of fire damage per second.

Use Unbounded Storms or Freezing to level Destruction. The spellbooks are acquired in Hobs Fall Cave.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Courage can be used to level illusion.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

With the Respite perk healing spells are a great source of Stamina.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Effects Fortify Health Fortifies Health by 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Health Restores 266 points of Health

All of the ingredients can be found in or around Whiterun.


Potion of Fortify Destruction

Ingredients Glowing Mushroom, Snowberries & Steel-Blue Entoloma
Effects Fortify Destruction Destrcution spells are 213% stronger for 60 seconds
Resist Frost Grants 128% Frost Resistance for 60 seconds
Resist Shock Grants 128% Shock Resistance for 60 seconds

Go to Shimmermist Cave to the North East of Whiterun and gather 2 Glowing Mushroom inside the entrance. The remaining 7 are in the secret lab at the farm. Snowberries are around Windhelm Stables and the local farms. Steel-Blue Entoloma are available from Khajiit caravans. Remember to buy, quicksave, attack and quickload to reset the vendor until you have all 13 Steel-Blue Entoloma.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
