Imperial Inquisitor

Background

As a powerful agent of the Empire, operating with a high level of autonomy, you root out heresy, treason and threats to the state, often outside the normal laws.


Weapons

Any one handed weapon at the start of the game and ideally a steel rather than iron one.

The final weapon is the Grand Champion’s Sword. You can start the quest to get this by reading the journal about a mysterious altar in Dead Man’s Drink in Falkreath. At the altar pick power. I found Paralysis Rune and Wall of Storms particular useful in the pit. I also switched to the lord stone for the extra armor rating.


Armor

Side with Hadvar and wear a set of Light Imperial gear and then as soon as you can start the quest as noted above for the weapon. The when in Whiterun read the note on the bar in the Drunken Huntsman. Follow the quest to Castle Dour in Solitude and this will get you a full set of Imperial Dragon Armor, which you can use while levelling.

The final gear is a Necromancers Hood, The Lords Mail, Penitus Oculatus Boots and Gauntlets.

A Necromancers Hood can be found in areas populated by Necromancers and Hob’s Fall Cave is usually a good location where where I usually find one on the 3 Necromancers at the end of the cave.

The Lord’s Mail and the Penitus Oculatus Boots and Gauntlets can be found at the same time in a quest started by reading the journal in General Tulius’ room in Castle Dour in Solitude. All three items are in the chest after you defeat the Redguard mercenaries.

If you do not take your Smithing to same level as I do then you will need to add perk points into Agile Defender to reach the damage reduction cap of 80%. You know you are there if your character has a displayed Armor Rating of 592 or greater.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells. Conjuration for banish spells, Destruction for shock spells. Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

The Atronach Stone once the Atronach perk has been acquired for 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% magicka regeneration.


Shrines

Use a Kynareth for 25 extra Stamina.


Shouts

Dismay (Fear - Run - Terror)

Location: JDead Crone Rock, Lost Tongue Overlook, Shalidor’s Maze.

Causes enemies up to level 24 to flee for 30 seconds. Quick to activate over say using Hysteria.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Imperial

Imperials come out with a 30/35 skill boost

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use.


Attribute Distribution

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 1 / 3 / 0. At level 64 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Alteration

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds.
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls.
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it.
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

The Detect Life spellbook can be obtained in Whiterun by taking to the Steward in Dragonsreach and following the quest to the Stables. Cast this spell in the market to level Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem.
Banish Daedra Adept Weaker Summoned Dadra are sent back to Oblivion
Banish Undead Adept Summoned or raised undead up to level 15 are sent back to the grave

Used to fill soul gems for enchanting.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire that does 8 points per second. Targets on fire take extra damage.
Sparks Novice Lightning that does 8 points of shock damage to Health and Magicka per second
Lightning Bolt Apprentice A bolt of lightning that does 25 points of shock damage to Health and half that to Magicka
Chain Lightning Adept Lightning bolt that does 40 points of shock damage to Health and half to Magicka, then leaps to a new target
Lighning Cloak Adept For 60 seconds nearby opponents take 8 points of shock damage and half magicka damage
Thunderbolt Expert A Thunderbolt that does 60 points of shock damage to Health and half that to Magicka
Wall of Storms Expert Sprayed on the ground, it creates a wall of lightning that does 50 points of shock damage per second

Unbounded Storms can be used to level Destruction and the spell book is found in Hobs Fall Cave to the west of Winterhold.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Illusion is not used in this build.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Restoration spells are used as a means to quickly restore both health and stamina.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Summary of combined effects

One-handed attacks do 75% more damage.
Weapon enchantments cost no charges.
Destruction spells cost no magicka to cast.
Restoration spells cost 46% less to cast.
Health, Magficka and Stamina are increased by 115 points.
Frost Resistance is increased by 86%
Magic Resistance is increased by 37%.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Ingredients Blue Mountain Flower & Wheat
Effects Fortify Health Health is increased by 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Health Restores 266 points of Health

You can get all the Blue and Purple Mountain Flowers you need on the way to and in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.


Potion of Fortify Carry Weight

Ingredients Creep Cluster, Glowing Mushrooms & Steel-Blue Entoloma
Effects Fortify Carry Weight Carrying capacity increases by 170 for 300 seconds
Fortify Destruction Destruction spells are 213% stronger for 60 seconds
Restore Magicka Restores 266 points of Magicka

All the Glowing Mushrooms you need are in the secret lab at the farm. Creep Clusters start appearing near Kynesgrove to the south of Windhelm. You can also taken one for free from Arcadia’s Cauldron if you deliver her the Frost Salts from Farengar. Steel-Blue Entoloma are available from Khajiit caravans. Remember to buy, quick save, attack and quick load to reset the vendor until you have all 15 Steel-Blue Entoloma.


Poison of Weakness to Magic

Ingredients Giant Lichen, Jazbay Grapes & Scaly Pholiota
Effects Weakness to Magic Target is 85% weaker to magic for 30 seconds
Ravage Health Concentrated poison reduces maximum and current Health by 85 points for 10 seconds

Giant Lichen can be found by the Inn at Morthal, a standing stone near Morvarth’s Lair and above Morvarth’s Lair. Jazbay Grapes are found on the road near Kynesgrove which is to the south of Windhelm. Scaly Pholiota are found by the Alchemist’s Hut if you travel towards Ivarstead from Helgen.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
