Orc Warchief

Orc - Battleaxe - Heavy - Barbarian - Support

Background

An Orc Warchief is a mighty warrior able to both endure damage and deal it in equal measure. The Warchief is also a mighty leader and it able to inspire others in combat with their battlecrys.


Weapons

The Headsman's Cleaver is the weapon of choice as it's a unique weapon that has the longest reach of any melee weapon in the game. It has a reach of 1.35 rather than the standard 1.3 of a two-handed weapon. It has a base damage of 25 and weighs 24 but it swings slower than a regular battleaxe and has the same swing speed as a warhammer. When comparing the damage to that of warhammers it does the same damage as an Ebony warhammer but it weighs 6 less so it uses 88 stamina for a power attack instead of 100 or 66 instead of 75 with the Champion's Stance perk.

Enchanted with both Absorb Health and Stamina this will keep you alive and continually doing power attacks, unless you keep missing your target.


Armor

Orcish Plate should be used as it has higher armour rating than regular Orcish. It's also relatively easy to get a set early as the quest for it is from a journal in Whiterun Barracks.


Spells

Illusion magic to buff allies. Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

Use the Warrior Stone to help level Two-handed, Heavy Armor, Smithing and Block. Then take The Atronach Stone for 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% Magicka regeneration once you have reached 100 Alteration and have the Atronach perk, which is a total of 80% spell absorption.


Shrines

Use a Shrine of Talos for the 20% reduction to shout cooldowns.


Shouts

Battle Fury (Loyal - Valor - Inspire)

Location: Vahlok’s Tomb (all words) (Tharstan in the Skaal Village on Solstheim gives the quest).

Increases the attack speed of your followers. It's bascially the equivalent of Elemental Fury but for your followers.

Unrelenting Force (Force - Balance - Push)

Location: Just follow the main story quests

Staggers enemies.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Male Orc

Pick an Orc and have an Orc follower. Orcs have the racial power Berserker Rage which doubles damage and halves damage taken for 60 seconds once a day. Useful for numerous or tough enemies. Males can only become Orc Warchief's as they have a similar social structure to Lion prides.


Attribute Distribution

Place attribute points at 0 / 4 / 1. At level 57 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds

The Detect Life spellbook can be obtained in Whiterun by taking to the Steward in Dragonsreach and following the quest to the Stables. Cast this spell in the market to level Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem

Soul Trap is used to level Conjuration and also fill soul gems.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second.

Destruction is not needed in this build.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.
Rally Adept Targets won’t flee for 60 seconds and get extra health and stamina.
Call to Arms Master Targets have improved combat skills, health and stamina for 10 minutes.

Courage can be used to level illusion and then later Rally. Illusion perks will need to be acquired to make these cost less magicka, which will speed levelling.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Healing Hands Apprentice Heals the target 10 points per second, but not undead, atronachs, or machines
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Without enchanted gear Close Wounds is the best heal that can be cast and only with a Restoration skill level of 68 or more.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

All of the ingredients can be found in or around Whiterun.


Potion of Regenerate Stamina

Ingredients Fly Amanita, Dragon's Tongue & Mora Tepinella
Effects Fortify Two-handed 170% more damage for 60 seconds
Resist Fire 128% for 60 seconds
Fortify Illusion 170% stronger for 60 seconds
Regenerate Stamina 213% faster for 300 seconds

Fly Amanita and Dragon's Tongue can be found at Kynesgrove, which is just to the south of Windhelm. Fly Amanita are numerous in the mine. Mora Tapinella are on the dead trunks of trees on the way from Helgen to Whiterun.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
