Valkyrie

Background

Otherwise known as Valkyries, the Chooser’s of the Slain were responsible for choosing the bravest warriors to bring to Sovngarde, where they would live out their days in a never-ending feast and battle. The Valkyries were also seen as protectors of the warriors, using their magic to keep them safe and guide them to victory in battle. In this way, the Valkyries helped to ensure that the Nord people continue to produce brave and heroic warriors who would live on in the afterlife.

They were also said to be incredibly fast, able to outrun even the swiftest horses, and were rumoured to possess the ability to shape-shift into various animals. Their beauty was often said to be both captivating and terrifying, inspiring both awe and fear in those who encountered them.


Weapons

A steel sword as soon as possible which can be upgraded to a Skyforge steel sword.


Armor

Steel Soldier armour and any shield as soon as possible. Then a Reforged Helm of the Crusader, Silver Armor, Boots and Gauntlets and a steel shield. The Warlocks Ring is used as well to give a spell ward when blocking, health regeneration and faster movement speed.

With the default textures Steel Plate is a closer match to the helmet than Silver Armor so use that instead. The textures I use for my armours and weapons are made by Xavbio.

The Reforged Helm of the Crusader can be acquired as Four Skull Lookout on the body of a slain Crusader. The Warlocks Ring is acquired from the 5th quest from Viriya at Riften Docks. The Silver Armor can be acquired for free by reading the note in kitchen of the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. You will get 3 tough opponents to kill or flee if you do this at lower levels.

If you play with the Immersive Armors mod use the Gildergreen Aegis or Wolf Shield instead of a steel shield.

If you play with the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod then the items at Four Skill Lookout are replicas instead of the enchanted items. To get the enchanted version of the light helmet you need to find the Heavy Helmet in a sealed chest in Duskglow Crevice that can be opened if you have a blessing of Dibella or wear Sir Amiel’s Signet ring. The Signet ring is on an iceberg directly north of the Tower Stone. If you use the Replica then enchant it with Fortify Illusion and Fortify Restoration. Doing so avoids the pilgrimage quest if you are not playing as pure as you should be.


Spells

Utility spells from Alteration, Fear spells from Illusion and Restoration for heals.


Standing Stones

The Atronach Stone for spell absorption.


Shrines

Use a shrine of Talos for the 20% shout cooldown reduction.


Shouts

Dismay (Fear - Run - Terror)

Location: Dead Crone Rock, Lost Tongue Overlook, Shalidor’s Maze

Used to fear weak enemies so you can focus on attacking the tougher targets.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Nord Werewolf

Nords are the perfect race for a Valkyrie for roleplay regardless of imperials being a better pick based on skill boosts.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.

The Companions must be joined for the upgraded steel sword and to become a Werewolf. It’s not needed but Werewolf could be the animal form of he Valkyrie. It also gets you disease immunity at the cost of the Well Rested XP bonus from sleeping in a bed.

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 0 / 2 / 1. At level 62 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

I talked to the Steward in Dragonsreach to get the In The Shadows quest, which once you have read the business ledger from Arcadia's Cauldron places a dead body in the stables with the Detect Life spell. Casting this in Whiterun market during the day levels Alteration reasonably quickly.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description

Use Soul Trap to fill soul gems and level conjuration quickly.


Destruction

Flames Novice A gout of fire inflicting a base damage of 8 points of fire damage per second

I never used Destruction in this build.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.
Fear Apprentice Creatures and people up to level 9 flee from combat for 30 seconds
Rout Expert Creatures and people up to level 20 flee from combat for 30 seconds

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC. Muffle is also effective when you have enchanted gear to negate the magicka cost of Illusion spells.


Restoration

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers and Lavender you need in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.

Mora Tapinella are on the route from Helgen to Whiterun. There’s a lot of Scaly Pholiota to the south of Ivarstead and around Riften. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravan merchants.


Potion of Fortify Block

Bleeding Crown can be found outside Geirmund’s Hall which is on the Island east of Ivarstead. Tundra Cotton are found in Whiterun.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
