Skullclan Hunter

Background

The Skullclan Hunter is the acclaimed foe of unlife. Their devotion to his task is such that they spend moonless nights and weary days tracking undead to their lairs.


Weapons

Any sword at the start of the game.

The final weapon is Dawnbreaker, which can be acquired at the Statue of Meridia, between Solitude and Dragonbridge, once you have picked up Meridia’s Beacon as random loot in a chest. The sword does fire damage and can deliver and area of effect explosion the same as the Bane of Undead spell.


Armor

Craft a set of leather scout armour as soon as you can. You can then progress to Dwarven Mail and then to Orcish Scaled as the smithing perks are acquired.

The final gear is a Nightingale Hood, Guild Master’s Armor, Dark Seducer Gauntlets and Dark Seducer Boots.

Talk to Ri’saad the Khajiit merchnat that travels between Whiterun and Markarth and ask him about bandits. You’ll get a full set of Dark Seducer gear if you follow the quest he gives you.

The Nightingale Hood is acquired as part of following the Thieves Guild main quests. Go to Riften marketplace and you’ll be approached to join the guild.

The Guild Master Armor is acquired at the end of the Thieves Guild main questline. To become the Guild Master you need to complete both the main questline and the 4 reputation quests from Delvin that trigger once you have done 5 side jobs each in Markarth, Solitude, Windhelm and Whirerun.

In each of the main quests from Goldenglow estate and onwards is a unique item that can be acquired and sold to Delvin to be displayed at the Guild Master’s desk. These items are:

Queen Bee Statue – Aringoth’s room and also a bee in a jar can be found here.
Honningbrew Decanter - locked being an expert level door in Sabjorn’s room.
East Empire Shipping Map – in the a cabin at the top of a steep path in East Empire Company Warehouse.
Model Ship – In Snow Veil Sanctum it’s in a room with oil and lanterns on a pedestal. If the trap goes off before you take the model it can be difficult to find it as the explosion sends it flying.
Dwemer Puzzle Cube – In Calcelmo’s Laboratory in the room with an Arcane Enchanter.
Bust of the Gray Fox – in the treasure room in Riftweald Manor where you find Chillrend.
Left Eye of the Falmer – found on Mercer Frey.

If you complete at least 125 side jobs and the Crown of Barenziah quest then the display will be full.


Spells

Alteration for utility spells. Illusion for Orum’s Aquatic Escape, Restoration for healing and spells against undead.


Standing Stones

The Atronach Stone for 50% spell absorption, 50 Magicka but -50% Magicka regeneration.


Shrines

Use a shrine of Talos for the 20% shout cooldown reduction.


Shouts

Unrelenting Force (Force - Ballance - Push)

Location: Just follow the main story quests

Used to stagger or knockdown opponents.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Argonian

Argonians, Dark Elves, Imperials, Khajiit and Redguard all have the same skill boost for this build so I went with Argonian because they generally get used the least.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.

The thieves guild must be joined to get 2 items for this build.

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 0/2/1. At level 66 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Paralysis Rune Adept Cast on a nearby surface, it explodes when enemies are nearby, immobilizing them for 8 seconds
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it

I talked to the Steward in Dragonsreach to get the In The Shadows quest, which once you have read the business ledger from Arcadia's Cauldron places a dead body in the stables with the Detect Life spell. Casting this in Whiterun market during the day levels Alteration reasonably quickly.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description

Soul trap is used to fill soul gems to help level enchanting.


Destruction

Destruction is not needed in this build.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina
Orum’s Aquatic Sphere Adept Caster is invisible for 16 seconds, Actovating an object or attacking will break the spell, Can breatehe water fir 15 seconds, Improved night vision for 15 seonds

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals the caster 100 points
Stendarr's Aura Adept For 60 seconds, undead in melee range take 10 points sun damage per second
Grand Healing Expert Heals the caster and followers 250 points
Bane of the Undead Master Sets undead up to level 30 on fire and makes them flee for 30 seconds
Guardian Circle Master Undead up to level 35 entering the circle will flee. Caster heals 20 health per second inside it

Use progressively better healing spells as you unlock the perks. I didn't use any of the turn or repel undead spells other than the master level spells when I played the build.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

Summary of combined effects

One-handed weapons do 75% more damage.
Restoration spells cost 46% less magicka.
Illusion spells cost 17% less magicka.
Health, Magicka and Stamina are increased by 115 points.
Sneaking is 150% easier
Carrying capacity is increased by 50 points.
Magic Resistance is increased by 37%

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers you need is in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.


Potion of Fortify Carry Weight

Effects Fortify Carry Weight Carry 170 more weight for 300 seconds
Regenerate Stamina Stamina regenerates 213% faster for 300 seconds

Mora Tapinella are on the route from Helgen to Whiterun. There’s a lot of Scaly Pholiota to the south of Ivarstead and around Riften. Steel-Blue Entoloma are from Khajiit caravan merchants.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
