Phantom

Breton - Bow - Clothing - Light - Archer - Assassin - Conjurer

Background

Many rogues walk a fine line between life and death, risking their own lives and taking the lives of others. While adventuring on that line, some rogues discover a mystical connection to death itself.


Weapons

A bound bow as soon as you can with the spell book being available in Fort Amol. Try to get a Hunting Bow before this.


Armor

The Leather Scout set should be crafted as soon as you can, as it’s the best armour that uses just leather and it doesn’t require any smithing perks. Then a Vampire Leather Hood from Bloodchill Manor, a Vagrant Robe and Dark Seducer Gauntlets and Boots. The quest to get access to the Dark Seducer gear is from Ri’Saad the Khajiit merchant that travels between Whiterun and Markarth. Talk to Viriya at the Riften Docks and the Vagrant Robes are on one of the mages that attacks you in the No Contest quest.


Spells

Bound Bow and Haunting Spirit from Conjuration. The Bound Bow spell book is in Fort Amol and the Haunting Spirit spell book is in Yngvild. Healing spells from Restoration and some utility spells from Alteration.


Standing Stones

The Lord Stone for 50 armour rating and 25% magic resistance.


Shrines

Use a shrine of Talos for the 20% shout cooldown reduction.


Shouts

Become Ethereal (Fade - Spirit - Bind)

Location: Ironbind Barrow, Lost Valley Redoubt, Ustengrav (The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller).

Makes you take no damage for a period of time.

Unrelenting Force (Force - Balance - Push)

Location: Just follow the main story quests

Staggers enemies but it's replaced by Cyclone.

Whirlwind Sprint (Whirlwind - Fury - Tempest)

Location: Dead Men’s Respite, Volskygge, High Hrothgar (The Way of the Voice)

Use to reach otherwise inaccessible places and to quickly evade attacks or catch up with fleeing enemies.


Character Creation

Female Breton

Pick a Breton for the race as you start with the Conjure Familiar spell and Conjuration starts at 25, which is the largest boost of any race for the main school of magic used in this build. High Elf also have the same number of skill levels boosted at 30 out of a possible 35, which is the same as Bretons. High Elves get a boost of 5 points in Destruction whereas Bretons get a 5 point boost in Speech, which is not used to place perks in this build but an increase in this skill means better prices for buying and selling items so it’s useful for all builds event without perks.

Pick female as the sex for your character as there are more male humanoids than females to fight in Skyrim so the 10% damage bonus against the opposite sex from Agent of Dibella gets more use. All Dwemer Automatons count as Male.

Distribute attributes at a ratio of 1/1/0. At level 60 which is required for all the perks the attributes are:

Alteration

Spell Level Description
Candlelight Novice Creates a hovering light that lasts for 60 seconds
Detect Life Adept Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines or daedra, can be seen through walls
Telekinesis Adept Can pull an object to you from distance. Add it to your inventory or throw it
Waterbreathing Adept Can breathe under water for 60 seconds. Stand in water and cast to level Alteration.

From the Bow of Shadows quest that you get from the steward in Dragonsreach you can get the Detect Life spell book at the stables once you have read the ledger in Acradia's Cauldron. Cast this in the market during the day to level Alteration.


Conjuration

Spell Level Description
Conjure Familiar Novice Summons a familiar for 60 seconds wherever the caster is pointing
Conjure Haunting Ghost Apprentice Summons a Haunting Spirit for 60 seconds. When killed, the spirit steals 10 points from the skills of its killer and transfers them to the caster for a short time
Soul Trap Apprentice If a target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem
Bound Bow Adept Creates a mgical bow for 120 seconds. Sheathe it to dispel
Bound Quiver Adept Creates a magic quiver for 120 seconds

Use Soul Trap to fill soul gems and level conjuration quickly. Taking novice conjuration early helps as you can use the Familiar to distract enemies.


Destruction

Spell Level Description
Flames Novice A gout of fire that does 8 points per second. Targets on fire take extra damage

Destruction isn't needed in this build.


Illusion

Spell Level Description
Courage Novice Target won't flee for 60 seconds, and gets some extra health and stamina.

Courage can be used to level illusion by casting it at an NPC.


Restoration

Spell Level Description
Healing Novice Heals the caster 10 points per second
Healing Hands Apprentice Heals the target 10 points per second, but not undead, atronachs, or machines
Fast Healing Apprentice Heals caster by 50 points
Close Wounds Adept Heals caster by 100 points
Grand Healing Expert Heals everyone close to the caster 200 points. Does not affect atronachs, machines or undead

Just the healing spells from Restoration.


Enchantments

The effects listed below are based upon 100 Enchanting skill, all the enchanting perks in the build and with a set of enchanted crafting gear. Read my guide on making crafting gear if you are not familiar with it.

With the Sallowed Regent Black Book the magnitude of all enchantments can be increased. Please note that Black Books can only be used on Solstheim.

The magnitude of the enchantments can be further increased by equipping 4 pieces of Azhidal's gear.


Alchemy

All the details for the potions and poisons are based on having all the listed alchemy perks, Alchemy at 100 and a set of crafting gear.

Potion of Fortify Health

Ingredients Blue Mountain Flower, Lavender & Wheat
Effects Fortify Health 170 points for 60 seconds
Restore Health 266 points restored
Fortify Conjuration Conjuration spells last 170% longer

You can get all the Blue Mountain Flowers and Lavender you need in Whiterun. The two farms to the east of Whiterun also get you all the Wheat you need.


Potion of Regenerate Health

Ingredients Canis Root, Namira's Rot & Juniper Berries
Effects Fortify Archery 170% more damage for 60 seconds
Regenerate Health Health regenerates 213% faster for 300 seconds

There are 2 Canis root can be obtained from Arcadia for free by taking her the Frost Sales from Farengar. Another one is in the secret lab at the farm. The others can be obtained in the swamps on the opposite side of the river to Solitude Docks and Lumbermill. There are 2 Namira’s Rot sold by Angeline in Solitude. Another 7 are in Reachwater Rock. Juniper Berries are numerous around Markarth. I got the last 2 from Rebel’s Cairn, which is a slight detour from my usual route from Markarth to Rorikstead before going to Goldenhills Plantation.


Potion of Fortify Enchanting

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Stoneflower Petals & Snowberries
Effects Fortify Enchanting 85% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Stoneflower Petals are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Snowberries are abundant near Windhelm.


Potion of Fortify Smithing

Ingredients Dreugh Wax/Gold Kanet & Glowing Mushrooms
Effects Fortify Smithing 213% stronger for 30 seconds

Dreugh Wax and Gold Kanet are only available from Khajiit caravans. Some travel between Whiterun and Markarth. Glowing Mushrooms are in Falmer caves.
